Safety Policy and Procedures Manual
Need a Safety Plan? We are prepared to work with you to develop a Safety Manual that both meets the requirements of the legislation and your company. Many Safety Websites and even a few Safety Consultants provide a quick, easy set of policies without any questions. These policies are generic and are impressive upon receipt of them. The OHS legislation in this country requires not a generic set of policies, but require policies specifically for the employer specific type of work, location of work and the equipment being used. Compliance cannot be accomplished by the purchase of policies off the web, or over the phone. A customer should be questioning the credibility, ability and integrity of any Safety Service Provider which believes that a compliant manual can be provided "off-the-shelf." Compliant policy development takes the involvement of knowledgeable safety consultants and the customer. We also believe that part of the discussion should include the importance of "Due Diligence" and how to work to achieve it.
The method we use for policy development involves a meeting to explain the purpose of a safety program, and the process that will be followed during its development. Discussion around the various statutory requirements will be conducted with the customer to ensure they are aware of the various statutes and their specific requirements in the safety plan. The next part of this first meeting is to discuss the customer needs, while examining their current system or policies being used. A familiarity with the company is essential and visits to work sites may occur. Discussions with workers will occur as this is both essential for details and required by legislation in conducting an effective Job Safety Analysis and Safe Work Procedures.
Shortly thereafter, a draft manual will be reviewed with the customer. At this time, the customer will bring the completed JSA's for inclusion with the manual. Additions, alterations, deletions or "tweaking" the manual will occur during this meeting, with the possibility of further information being gathered. Depending upon the needs of the customer, and the amount of information still being collected for inclusion in the policies, additional developmental meetings may occur.
The final meeting will be the presentation of the completed manual. The customer will be educated about the policies and programs within the manual, the statutory reasons for inclusion, and the importance of not only actively following the procedures, but completing the documentation required of the policies. The customer must clearly understand the policy manual, and the reasons that the OHS legislation requires it.
This is an important process for the customer. It is our objective to not only provide a legislation compliant manual, but to educate the customer throughout the process and empower them to review and update their manual to remain compliant. Our customer is not only purchasing a safety manual, but receiving an education in OHS standards.
We also offer continuing support to the customer should they require it.
