First Aid Courses
Automated External Defibrillator Training

A course designed for those persons who have an authorized AED on their work site or in their community.  This course covers the use of the AED, how it works, when to use it and safety precautions.  Canadian Heart & Stroke Guidelines 2006 are followed in the delivery of this course.

Automated External Defibrillator Instructor Training (AED-I)

This course will train candidates in basic instruction skills & techniques to be used while delivering AED Training to qualified persons.  Canadian Heart & Stroke Guidelines 2006 are followed in the delivery of this course.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Heart Saver (A)
Heart Saver AED (C)
Basic Life Support - Health Care Provider (HCP)


Depending upon the level of CPR Course being taught, the content will include how to deal with breathing and circulation problems.   Each course has its own mandatory content, but may include breathing emergencies in adult/child/baby, choking emergencies in adult/child/baby, CPR for adult/child/babies, one rescuer and two rescuer techniques, and the use of the AED.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Instructor Training (CPR-I)

This course will train candidates in basic instruction skills & techniques to be used when delivering CPR and AED training to qualified persons.  Canadian Heart & Stroke Guidelines 2005 are followed in the delivery of this course.

First Aid - Emergency Level (EFA)
This course meets the requirements for diverse groups of people and occupations.  The course content has 6 mandatory components, and numerous optional topics that may be chosen to meet the needs of the group.  Following the Federal Labour Code Part II mandatory teaching components, this course meets the requirements of a First Aid Attendant requiring Basic First Aid.

First Aid - Standard Level (SFA)

upational Health and Safety Level (OHSFA)
The Occupa
tional Health and Safety Legislation in the provinces set the standards for first aid components to be lawfully compliant in the workplace.  Following these requirements, the student is issued a First Aid Certificate with an OHS compliant notation that the instructional standards have been met.  The OHS First Aid Course meets the First Aid Attendant requirements of both provincial OHS and the Federal Labour Code Part II requirements.  The Standard first aid course is different from the OHS First Aid in that it has 6 mandatory components, and the remainder of the components are optional - depending upon the needs of the students.

First Aid - Wilderness and Remote (WFA)

This course takes the standard or OHS level first aid, and develops it further to meet the needs of providing first aid in remote or isolated areas.  This course includes survival, spinal movement reduction, medical emergencies and some advanced trauma emergency situations.  Wilderness first aid is a good course for people who like to hike, camp, canoe or spend time in remote areas.  This course is recognized as meeting the requirements of the Canada Labour Code Part II requirements for those workers in remote areas.

First Aid - First Responder/Medical Responder Level 1

First aid is the help that can be given to a person who has fallen ill, or been injured.  This is an advanced level course that reinforces the basic skills of first while teaching some advanced skills.  Spinal movement reduction, oxygen administration and more is covered.  This course is recognized for registration with Saskatchewan Health as a member of  a First Responder Group. 
  • 40 hours
First Aid - Advanced Level II/Medical Responder Level II

This course reinforces the basic skills taught in first aid, and builds on them with additional advanced skills.  The course teaches more in depth understanding of basic first aid concepts and techniques.  Additionally, spinal movement reduction, oxygen administration, patient extrication with numerous practice scenarios are covered during this course.  The Occupational Health and Safety Legislation of the provinces recognize this level of advanced training. 
  • 80 hours
ITLS (Formerly known as BTLS)
This course
is an exellent course for learning or reinforcing trauma assessment and treatment skills.  It covers trauma injuries in detail and the appropriate care plans for prehospital treatment providers.  Course content can be modified for either a Basic Provider or Advanced Provider Level.  There is lots of time spent on practice situations during this course so that participants can master the skills and build confidence.

Intermediate Life Support (ILS)

This course is designed to bridge the gap for healthcare workers between basic life support and advanced cardiac life support skills.  advanced airway control techniques, bag valve mask, manual defibrillation and  AED use are all taught and practiced by the students through scenarios.  This course is taught to the Saskatchewan Heart and Stroke Association requirements.
